$575,000.00

RARE PAIR OF SEVRES STYLE PALACE SIZE GILT-BRONZE MOUNTED VASES

France, Circa 1860

These Sèvres porcelain urns are truly exceptional, standing out for their monumental size and exquisite craftsmanship, showcasing the renowned deep cobalt blue glaze characteristic of the Sèvres manufactory. While Sèvres urns varied in sizes and qualities across the years, these particular urns are remarkable even among the finest examples produced between 1850 and 1880.

Distinguished by their handcrafted mercury-gilded bronze mounts, a rarity among Sèvres urns, these pieces surpass the usual standard of "stock" bronze fittings. Moreover, their size sets them apart, as most Sèvres urns were considerably smaller, making these monumental urns a rare find. It's widely believed by experts that smaller urns were meant for retail sale, while larger ones like these were custom-made as prestigious commissions for elite patrons, earning them the moniker "palace urns."

The lids of these urns bear the distinguished under glazed blue Sevres Double L mark, embellished with an "F" and inscribed with "La Presentation, Le Menuet," translating to 'The Presentation of the Old Style Graceful Dance.'

We've scoured the open market extensively and haven't come across vases of this remarkable size so far.
